If you entered LittleBigLand’s Crown competition, maybe you won! Now might be a good time to go and check eh?

We have been utterly bowled over by the skill, imagination and time that you fine sack people have put into your creations, many of these levels have been truly magical and you all deserve one of these fantastical crowns, but alas sadly we only had one to give away.
We have all been beavering away trying to play and finish your levels, some we completed, some we didn’t, some very deviously tricky parts in some of those levels!
Finally though we have made our minds who we think deserve to be the winners. So without further ado…
The Winner of LittleBigLands Fantastical Crown Competition is…
We won’t spoil it, why don’t you head over to LittleBigLand to see if you won, or to check out the excellent videos of the winning entries!
Sony have for some time now been making the most of LittleBigPlanet as the ideal outlet for cross-promoting the leading games of PlayStation 3. Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, Loco Roco, Wipeout, God of War, Heavenly Sword - just a handful of the big names which have come to LBP through costumes, levels and ‘create’ DLC.
But it works both ways, and Sackboy is starting to find his way in to other games. A Little Big Planet PlayStation Home space is already in the works, Sackboy PSN avatars are coming soon and don’t forget that last December it was rumoured that Sackboy will be coming to Hot Shots / Everybody’s Golf 5.
The most recent appearance of Sackboy’s friendly face is in SingStar (yes, we play SingStar and love it very much). It’s been live for some weeks now, but you can buy a Little Big Planet wallpaper from the SingStore (99p in the UK).
The wallpaper theme allows you to play SingStar with Little Big Planet background music, an animated background of various stickers moving in and out, plus of course: Sackboy’s smiling face…
It’s a bit pricey and of course, it’s a cash in for Sony on the brand that they’ve built up for Little Big Planet, but it’s a bit of fun too. Check it out in the SingStore wallpapers section, it’s called “Little Big Wallpaper“.
Keep your eyes peeled for Little Big Planet and Sackboy appearing in yet more games as time goes by.
Up until now, it’s been pretty tough to gain your way in to the elite group of LBP Royalty, and get one of those tasty ever-so-exclusive gold crowns to adorn your Sackboy.
Well, things are changing! Over on the U.S PlayStation Blog, an announcement has been made that these crowns will be given out a lot more frequently, and for a wider range of community activites. Here are the three main areas in which efforts could be rewarded with a Crown:
#1 A “Gold Star” on the LittleBigWorkshop
Frequently, when we’re on LittleBigWorkshop.com, every so often, we come across a submission, whether it is an inspiration, workshop or forum post that makes us smile. As a small token of our appreciation, we like to put a smile on your face too by giving you a Community Prize Crown.#2 Raising our Eyebrows
Every once in awhile, LBP fans do something that immediately grabs the attention of a few people, spreads on the web, and eventually is talking about it. We love it when this happens, and as a sign of thanks, you may just get a Community Prize Crown in your mail box.#3 LittleBigChallenges
We’re in the process of coming up with more LittleBigChallenges, so get your creative thoughts together and stay tuned next week for LittleBigChallenge2.
If you think you’ve already earnt one of these for your work, check the full article and let them know!
In addition to Wednesday’s level searching updates Media Molecule have made changes to the way in which the Community page in-game works.
Basically, newly uploaded good-quality levels are far more likely to appear on the first few pages of results. Older levels with thousands of plays won’t get to hang around on the front pages for quite so long, and levels that are constantly ‘bumped’ by creators re-publishing them, won’t get any special treatment either. These are great improvements which offer creators a genuine chance to get their levels seen.
Here is the official lowdown on the specifics:
Previously, the first few pages of the community levels displayed those levels which had the most activity in the last 7 days. However, we soon noticed a trend; once a level was popular enough to make it to the front page, it was likely to never leave!
Clearly, that’s great if you’re one of the few hundred or so creators with levels on the front pages, but not so good for the creators of the other 500,000 or so LittleBigPlanet levels! It also means that eventually the pages start to look a little static, with very little variation from day to day (or even week to week!).
We wanted to try a new system; one that would ensure that the default community selection, was fresh, of a high quality and constantly changing. In brief, the new system ensures that the default selection of levels are those with the highest rating, published within the last 7 days. Once 7 days have passed since a level was first published, it will make room for a new level to gain some exposure (republishing the level over the same slot won’t make it count as a new level).
The important part to remember is that it’s never been so easy for a level to hit the front page searches. Previously, a level would require 100’s of thousands of plays and hearts to even come close the front page. Now, if a creator publishes a good quality NEW level today and tries out some of our publishing hints in our article publishing 101, it’s far more likely their level will hit the top.

A collaborative project from a team of creators on Neo ‘how-many-years-will-it-take-to-get-my-account-approved‘ GAF has now been completed and released to the community.
The project aimed at delivering the definitive experience of the 1987 arcade game, Contra (also known as Gryzor and Probotector), to LittleBigPlanet. The goal has been to recreate the 8 stages of the original NES version of the game, which the team has managed to achieve.
It’s a lot to take on and we believe this is the biggest community level building project in LittleBigPlanet to date. The eight levels and building team are as follows:
- Jungle: MisterAnderson - PSN: Leonidas2123
- Base 1: Orz- PSN: SaitoHalifax
- Waterfall: PSN - RyanardoDavinci
- Base 2: Orz- PSN: SaitoHalifax
- Snowfield: PSN: NinjaMicWZ
- Energy Zone: El_Beefo - PSN: El_Beefo
- Hangar: Jaeyden - PSN: Jaeyden
- Alien’s Lair: Donkey Show - PSN: gevurah22
Along with the release of the levels is a preview trailer. Check it out:
Impressive stuff! We’re off to play these levels right now. And with those new level search features released on Wednesday, it should be pretty easy to track these levels down ![]()
You can find out more about the project on the teams release thread on NeoGAF and in a great write up article over on One Last Continue.
LittleBigPlanet for PSP has been officially confirmed (previously it was only confirmed internally at SCE’s annual briefing). The game was debuted as part of a 2009 lineup unveiling at SCEA’s annual Destination Playstation retail and publisher event in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, which also announced the arrival of Rockband and Assasins Creed for the Sony Handheld. Gamasutra reports...
As for its own titles, a PSP LittleBigPlanet developed with Media Molecule promises new levels specifically created for the platform with the same gameplay, although SCEA didn’t specify whether the PSP edition of the game will interface in any way with the console version
Time to dust off your PSP in anticipation folks!
Gamasutra has posted coverage of Alex Evans’ talk at the D.I.C.E conference, which he gave after Mm won eight of twelve available AIAS awards the night before.
“I don’t want to paint a picture that we’re just a bunch of hippies in a room,“ Evans added.
“How do you make sure you’re not just making shit?“ he asked, saying that as a studio director he considered that question many times. He recalled Media Molecule going through many, many iterations of its core user creation tools, many of which were only practical for creating “melty lumps of shit.“
The user tools ended up needing to be powerful enough to create production-quality content. “We are just power users,“ Evans explained—the PC-based tools the team uses are simply more efficient versions of the same tools that ship with the game on PlayStation 3.
The decision to pursue that focus with the tools was one that required great effort and caused many headaches, he admitted, but it “paid off in huge spades.“
Interesting, that was always a bit of an unanswered question to us, whether the developers used a more enhanced set of tools or not, and it appears they do. Oh to get our hands on ‘em!

Hi, i’m a link with more information.
A new LBP contest is taking place in Europe, giving players a unique chance to win one of those super-special, super-spangley LittleBigPlanet Crowns.
The February Level Design Challenge is open now and is accepting entries until 23 February. So you’ve got just two weeks!
With levels being judged by Media Molecule themselves, competition entrants can expect the very best in final decisions. Along with a LBP Crown, winners will also receive a Sackboy figurine.
The official competition announcement is as follows:
As part of our “I ♥ PlayStation” month of events, we’d like all you LittleBigPlanet level creators out there to take up our February level design challenge.
We’d like you to create a fun, surprising and ingenious LittleBigPlanet level that requires two players to play through and complete. So any contraptions, puzzles or devices that you include in your level must involve the co-operation of two little Sackboys (or Sackgirls!) to finish.
When you upload your 2-player LittleBigPlanet level, make sure you use the following 4-letter tag at the start of your level name so we can spot it: “LBPF” (the F’s for “February”!). Please also ensure that any levels you upload agree with the LittleBigPlanet Upload Guidelines.
At the end of the month, MediaMolecule will pick out the best level and reward its creator with an adorable Sackboy figurine and the very rare, much-coveted LBP Crown!
Upload your levels by midnight on Monday 23 February 2009 to be in with a chance of winning. Good luck!
More information, plus terms and conditions can be found on the official forum thread for this contest.
In a comment on the PlayStation Blog, SCEA Marketing Manager Mark Valledor has said that Sackboy avatars (for PSN) are ‘being worked on‘.
Here’s what PSN user Kushman666 asked:
you can also release some sackboy avatars
so i can ditch this grey face
Mark then replied:
LOL…we’re actually working on that as we speak.
So, good news all round there then.
It’s pretty unbelievable that Sackboy avatars have not been available yet. Sackboy has been the leading man of he PlayStation brand for many months now, and there are many players who’ll be very pleased to sign in to PSN with Sackboys smiling little face. It has to be said, that some of the existing PSN Avatars are, ahem, questionable:

If you saw this staring up at you in the toilet bowl, you’d probably have a heart attack.
Let’s just call him Mr Hanky.
As always, we’ll post back here with more news of PSN Sackboy avatars when it comes in.
Thanks to capt.fury for sending this in.
SCEA Community lord, Sir Sam_Protagonist, popped into the official forums today to give us word that patch 1.09 is in testing and isn’t too far from release. 1.09, also known as Edam, is set to contain a selection of major bug fixes, and Sam breaks them down for us below:
- “Failed to save profile” message will now display when a user’s profile is full
- Object capture bug where connectors would be deleted when an object is captured is resolved
- “Failed to load profile” issue will no longer cause players to exit to the XMB
- Text will now show correctly in the text chat window
- Slow rewinding due to moderations checks is resolved
- Save file corruption causing the game to crash when placing any object in an emitter has been resolved
Whether this is the full list or not is unkown, but the sooner this patch comes to town, the better!
[UPDATE]
We thought this article needed something appropriate and we think we’ve found it. Edam, Tarquin, Edam.
