LBP patch 1.07 now live

Dec 19th 2008 - 1:27 PM

RoquefortThe latest patch for Little Big Planet, 1.07 is now available. It comes as a surprise as it’s barely 24 hours since the 1.06 patch was released.

Yes, there is definitely a strong smell of cheese around here. Patch 1.07, codename: ‘Roqueforte‘, hits us hard with 67Mb of stinky goodness. This is by far the largest patch to date for Little Big Planet.

Patch 1.07 integrates the PlayStation Store in to the game (LittleBIGStore), allowing you to view previous purchases, re-download previous purchases and quickly and easily buy content whilst in the world of Little Big Planet. It’s yet another great addition to the game, I’m sure you’ll agree. It also brings the much asked for ability to export photos to the hard drive, which isn’t quite as in demand as the ability to import them, but hey, now there’s more of a point to the in-game photographs. (Thanks Redswipe!)

Official Patch Notes:

Play

  • New Search Modes: More ways to find interesting levels like Most Hearted, Highest Rated and Busiest!
  • In-game Store: Browse, buy and play downloadable content, such as the soon-to-be-released Metal Gear Solid packs, without needing to go to the Playstation Store

Create

  • Save As: Save your level to a different slot on the moon while mid-edit.

Share

  • Keyboard text chat: Plug a standard USB keyboard into your PS3 and just start typing. Or, press Tab on your keyboard to go straight to the standard PS3 text entry screen.
  • Image export: save the photos you take in game to your hard drive.
  • General fixes, polishing and improvements, including:
  • Fixed “Wheel of death” bug where Sackboy could get stuck endlessly respawning out of a checkpoint
  • Better support for third party controllers
  • Fixed stretch Sackboy arms
  • General server improvements and optimization
  • Improved the corner (vertex) editing tool
  • Improvements to how Popit deals with complex shapes
  • Improved Sackboy animation and made it harder to slap accidentally while acting
  • Fixed lights so they don’t forget their colour
  • If anything I can say this cab is rare
  • Improved Online multiplayer level selection
  • And I yelled to the cabbie ‘Yo homes smell ya later’
  • I looked at my kingdom
  • I was finally there
  • To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air…

Prince of Bel Air?! Move over, fatty, make way for the king! Awesome updates.

Additional fixes

Thanks to John in the comments and other users online who have pointed out that there are some additional fixes going under the radar.

  • Text Bubbles are now the colour of your “Profile Colour”
  • Proximity sensors now have an option to be triggered when all the current players are in the proximity.
  • The material properties glitch now apparently no longer works.

This comes, of course, with perfect timing as on the 23rd of December we’ll be seeing what people are calling the best ever DLC in any game ever, arriving in Little Big Planet. Yes, the Metal Gear Solid Premium Level Kit - if you have not yet seen the trailer, we suggest you check it out.

Take note that the next update will be with us, apparently in the ‘next couple of weeks’. It’s called Cornish Yarg and according to Teddington Cheese, it has the following characteristics:

Cornish Yarg is a moist cheese which tastes fresh and creamy with a gentle tang. The cheeses are matured for a minimum of three weeks but maturation can take up to two months. During this time the crumbly paste becomes softer at the edges and this texture then advances towards the centre. The flavour becomes less tangy and more musty with age.

Hmmm. So. That begs the question - will update 1.08, Cornish Yarg, include image importing? Has update 1.08 matured enough? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the Roqueforte...

LBP 1.06 Patch now live, contains moderation fixes

Dec 18th 2008 - 6:52 PM

1.06 patchThe LittleBigPlanet 1.06 patch is now live. It’s the biggest patch so far, weighing in at 25Mb.

Here are the official patch notes for this update.

The latest update (1.06) brings in some much requested changes to LBP’s moderation system. While the rules of what is and is not acceptable content for people to share have not changed, we have listened to your feedback and have made the following changes :

  • Moderated levels will now receive more detailed information once action has been taken
  • The notification message will remain in place on screen, removing the chance that affected users miss the message
  • Any moderated level can now be accessed for editing by the creator, whether online or offline
  • Additional information is now displayed on the “Good Grief” screen advising users on how the grief reporting functions, and warns against making spurious reports

Good Grief

We’re pretty chuffed about this update, it looks like Media Molecule have added some excellent features to the game which should help improve the game no end. And just in time for Christmas!

EmmentalIt’s also good to note that this patch 1.06 has a codename of Emmental. Little Big Planet updates are named after different cheeses, and Media Molecule have enticingly revealed that LBP patch 1.07 is called Roqueforte. So, hopefully that means it will pack a punch. A great big, fat, mouldy, smelly punch. Judging by their comments in the blog post, that looks like it will be the case:

I’ve got the notes for 1.07 (Roqueforte) in front of me at the moment and that is a little more exciting. More news soon(-ish)!

Keep an eye out for 1.07 coming up soon then. Fingers crossed its that HDD Image Import option that was slated for a Dec release.

1.05 patch is live

Dec 4th 2008 - 2:16 AM

imageThe Planetoid observatory has just seen that the Little Big Planet 1.05 patch is now live. It went live at around 11pm GMT / UTC and is a teeny tiny 15MB in size.

Like previous patches, there has been no official word on it so right now there is no news on just exactly what this patch contains. We’d put our money on it being some minor stability fixes, much like patches 1.01, 1.02, 1.03 and 1.04 did and they were all around the same size. Media Molecule did, only a few hours ago, announce their commitment to improving key areas of the game: Searching, Moderation & Online play. So with any luck they’ll be some improvements in this patch to one of those areas.

We’ll keep you updated with the latest news the moment we hear it!

[UPDATE]
1.05 patch adds star ratings to levels - you can now see the current star rating of a level (providing it has enough feedback).

1.04 patch is live

Nov 20th 2008 - 10:51 PM

The LittleBigPlanet 1.04 patch is now live. Who knows what real mysteries it hide beneath it’s 11Mb of downloadable goodness, though there are two confirmed changes:

  • Using Undo in Creator mode requires a network call
  • Gluing can be un-glued from the ground

I’m not one to churn butter on the rumour-mill, but that thing there - ‘Using Undo in Creator mode requires a network call‘. Hmmmm. What could they want that for? Collected data and statistics about how users are using the create mode? Who knows…

You’ll be prompted for it automatically the next time you boot up Little Big Planet.

Import images function coming by Christmas

Nov 2nd 2008 - 4:48 PM

image

Media Molecule posted this photo on their Flickr feed

In some really quite excellent news that will make level builders everywhere rejoice in the streets, Alex Evans has confirmed that the ability to import images into LittleBigPlanet will be implemented by Christmas. Speaking at the GameCity festival in Nottingham last week, mister Evans told the press that the feature was apparently dropped for launch due to time constraints. This makes us very excited indeed, becuse as we all know, the PS3 eye camera image capture is really quite poor for making textures, so dust off your photoshop and roll on Christmas!

1.02 patch really does take out those lyrics this time

Oct 24th 2008 - 12:10 AM

...at least according to Eurogamer, we haven’t had the chance to boot up the ol’ PS3 video games machine and try it out ourselves, plus we trust Eurogamer to get it right. The patch hit this morning, and removes the entire vocal track from the song, which is a very addictive little number if I don’t say so myself. Up to the minute patching news broughto you by LittleBIGPlanetoid, and also mostly Eurogamer.

1.01 patch in the wild

Oct 23rd 2008 - 12:52 AM

The 1.01 patch hit the servers this morning, presumably in a reaction to the street date breakers, and the stores that neglected to pay attention to the recall notification. The patch almost certainly removes the offending music that has caused so much trouble, but has possibly also brought other changes - We swear that yesterday you still had to shake the controller to remove jetpacks, but now a quick press of the Circle button removes them, whilst veterans are left shaking the Dualshock around as onlookers stare in confusion.

What else is changed, if anything, is unknown at this time.
