Many happy gadders have been having not-so-happy holiday problems with their shiny new MGS Premium Level Packs, downloaded from the PlayStation Store.
Many reports have come in from players whose games are not saving, with progress being lost when the game is quit.
Community member Greatest_Caution, over on the LittleBigWorkshop Forums, has pointed out a possible fix for this problem. By simply deleting some of your extra save data, such as costumes or community content, your game will be able to save.
This would appear to be due to the fact that there is a limit on the size of game save data, which includes costumes, custom stickers, community objects and levels.
So, if you have this problem, remove some of your more superfluous data and with any luck, your progress on the MGS levels will then begin saving again as normal.
We can’t 100% verify this fix, as - well, we don’t have the problem. Let us know in the comments if it works for you.
After a short but frustrating delay, the Metal Gear Solid Premium Level and Costume Kits are now available on the European PlayStation Store. Phew!
The Official Sony PlayStation blog had originally confirmed the date on which the content would be available as Dec 23rd, SCEE then confirmed this date along with the European pricing (as reported on videogaming247). Whether Dec 23rd was ever the actual intended release date for Europe is unknown, but either way, a lot of European players were left feeling disappointed. As is unfortunately often the case for European PS3 gamers.
Europeans can now join in the paint balling fun with American friends over the pond. Hurrah! Get downloading!
Tomorrow the world will be a different place… little boys and girls will still be waiting impatiently for Thursday to arrive, bringing the inevitable joy and mirth along with it. But for those of us who dwell on the Little Big Planet, Christmas will be coming early this year, and with a serious topping of Awesome Sauce™. This is because tomorrow is the date that Metal Gear Solid: Paintinator - Paint of the Patriots will be arriving on the in-game store.
Tonight will be long for some, filled with excited anticipation, and followed by a morning of refreshing the store page, eyes darting between the clock and PS3 as they wait for the update to arrive.
Whilst you’re waiting, why not watch the following MGS Pack gameplay videos over and over again, and see if it makes the pack arrive any sooner!
You can see the same set of videos on Gamespot in HD. Tomorrow can’t come soon enough!
Thanks to LittleBigLand for finding the ones of these we didn’t see!

This image perfectly sums up the last 24 hours of mayhem in the LBP community. EPIC.
Mm have really opened the Little Big flood gates in the last 48 hours; with two updates, 1.06 and 1.07, both packed with features, a festive construction kit, and a game changing Metal Gear Solid pack with levels, costumes, a paintgun, and new trophies announced for next week.
So just when we thought the ceaseless tidal wave of information had brought enough joyous havoc into our lives, and we were ready to have a bit of a relaxing drink or two… suddenly we noticed those merry folks at Mm returned to the internet again to throw some awesome Metal Gear Solid: Paintinator posters and box art mockups into our overfilled laps.
Most of the guys and girls at Mm will surely be heading off for a well deserved Christmas break from today, meaning there can’t be any more… surely? There’s just no way our tiny minds could hold any further glee, and we might see some serious injuries up here on the Planetoid should this torrent continue.
Thank you Mm, a truly awesome couple of days for LBP, have an excellent inevitable Christmas booze-up tonight, we’ll raise a glass to you all!
The final waves of information regarding the awesome new Metal Gear Solid DLC for LittleBigPlanet are here.
1. The Metal Gear Solid Premium Costume Pack will arrive on the same day, priced $5.99 / €5.99 / £4.79 or individual costumes for $1.99 / €1.99 / £1.59. The costumes available are: Meryl, Snake, Screaming Mantis & Raiden.
2. The Metal Gear Solid Premium Level Pack will arrive on the PlayStation Store on December 23rd 2008, priced $5.99 / €5.99 / £4.79. The Metal Gear Solid Premium Level Pack will overload you with MGS-themed materials, objects, stickers and decorations, plus… well - take a looky right here:

- A 5th Sackboy costume…the Gurlokovich Soldier (see above).
- 72 New Stickers
- 12 New Materials
- 10 New Decorations
- 18 New objects
- 3 new background music tracks
- 1 new interactive music track
- New Metal Gear Solid themed ‘sound object’
- New Plasma Ball ‘danger element’
- New Laser Sight ‘gadget’

With the THE PAINTINATOR you’ll be able to splatter anything that comes between you and the end of any level. Shoot paintballs with the R1 button and using the right stick to aim. Paintballs will hit very weak slap. Shoot ‘Brains’ from a safe distances now and progress thru levels much easier. The Paint Switch, so you can attach it to any object and set it to destruct after being splattered with enough paint.
Don’t forget you can see some screenshots showing all these things and more. Though you pretty much *have* to watch the official trailer, it’s great:
Wow. There has been so much great news over the past 24 hours, we’re going to need a holiday!
Oh - we have one now, yay! And some Baileys, yay! And MGS4 DLC for Christmas day, yay!

Today brings massive news of new trophies coming to Little Big Planet.
The new trophies are arriving with the MGS4 Level Kit, which will be released very soon on the PlayStation Store.
What’s exciting about the trophies is that they reveal specific information about new power-ups that will be available with upcoming DLC Level Kits.
The new power up to be included with the MGS4 Level Kit is: The Paintinator.
The Paintinator is a power-up, just like the jetpack, which means you’ll be able to include this power up in your levels when you publish them, just like the jetpack. Infact, you can earn trophies from using the power up. Like the Bronze trophy: ‘Paint Sharer’ Publish a level containing METAL GEAR SOLID Paintinator Powerup. The Paintinator is a paintball gun and is capable of firing, rather obviously, paintballs. With no pics available and no video, we can only guess as to how exactly this paintball gun will work. How will it be controlled? How can you aim at other sackboys and girls?
The Paintinator marks a new era for LittleBigPlanet - It is the first official in-game weapon that a sack person can yield. This can completely change the way in which the game works and how you build your levels. This is a momentous occasion in the history of the LittleBigPlanet.
As soon as we find out the specifics of the Paintinator, we’ll be sure to post it here. In the meantime, be very excited about the new possibilities coming very soon to LittleBigPlanet.
The much talked about Festive Level Pack is now available on the EU and US PlayStation Stores. Rather sensibly, the Level Pack has been renamed to Level Kit. Which makes perfect sense as it doesn’t actually contain any levels.
We’ve had a chance to look over the Festive Level Kit and we think it’s rather excellent. In fact, we’ve done a quick video review to run over the things and hopefully answer a few questions you might have.
So there you go. Materials, funky stickers, 2 costumes (plus the second part of the free santa costume this week), and some down right awesome Christmas decorations. All the new items are stored in your pop-it with the in-game story mode items. So your pop-it is not going to run out of space (that limit is just on ‘community items’).
It might only be one day a year, but this level kit sets the standard and paves the way for future kits, like the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 Level Kit.
Don’t forget, if you’re downloading the Festive Level Kit that update 1.06 is out now and it’s a 25Mb download, so get busy!
The PlayStation Asia site has confirmed Alex Evan’s recent comments that the Metal Gear Solid 4 “Level Pack” and MGS4 costumes are complete and will be on the PlayStation Store ‘soon’. For the Level Pack, it states:
Send Sackboy™ into a covert world of stealth and intrigue with this downloadable collection of Metal Gear™ Solid goodies.
This announcement comes just hours after the PlayStation blog doubly confirmed the release of this weeks Festive “Level Pack”, available tomorrow (confusingly, “Level Packs” don’t actually contain any levels).
Now that we’ve seen the MGS4 costume pics, we can’t help but scream like little girls at just exactly how awesome the costumes actually are…
’Meryl’ costume.
’Screaming Mantis’ costume. Just look at those puppets dammit they’re cool!
’Old Snake’ costume.
As announced on the PlayStation Blog yesterday, the new LBP level packs contain all sorts of goodies. They pack a bit more punch.
The stickers included in the level pack have a unique design.
If the festive pack really does set the standard for future level packs, we can expect to see objects, decorations and materials - all with an MGS4 vibe.
We’re loving those stickers - you can see a Snake sticker, Rex sticker, Ocelot sticker, Melon (duh!) and some retro graphics texture stickers. It is not yet clear if the level pack will contain any costumes (like the festive pack does).
The release date for the Metal Gear Solid 4 Level Pack and costumes are TBC, but with the PlayStation Asia site having all the details already, we suspect they will be available on the PlayStation Store next week, as Christmas Day DLC (now that would make sense, Sony). That’s the answer our giant guess-a-matron reckons anyway.
The MGS4 costumes will be available separately though there will, as normal, be a bundle costume pack:
Here comes the METAL GEAR SOLID® Costume Set for LittleBigPlanet™! Buy it and you can get Snake Costume, Meryl Costume, Mantis Costume and Raiden Costume!
The MGS4 costume pack appears to be the only way of purchasing
‘used-to-suck-but-now-uber-cool’ Raiden. Though we’ll have to wait and see.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, we are very excited about these level packs here on the Planetoid. Keep an eye out in upcoming months for a Final Fantasy Level Pack (with the infamous Sepiroth costume) and a Killzone Level Pack (with that equally infamous Helghast costume).
More details on global pricing when they’re confirmed in their respective regions.
