Media Molecule win Studio of the Year at the Spike 2008 VGAs

Dec 15th 2008 - 9:34 AM

Media Molecule have won Studio of the Year at the much publicised 2008: Spike Video Game Awards. Woohoo!.

Media Molecule can truly call themselves award winning, as both them and their game LittleBigPlanet now have enough awards to require a trophy cabinet.

Joystiq posted a snippet of an interview with Alex Evans at the awards, who gives us yet another tantalising piece of DLC information:

The LittleBigPlanet packs are going to be a lot more than what people are thinking they will be. They will be very substantial.

Keep up the good work guys, and congratulations!

Alex Evans at the Wired store in NYC

Dec 3rd 2008 - 7:45 PM

image Anyone out there from New York? If so then you might be interested to know that on Thursday (4th Dec) Media Molecule’s very own Alex Evans will be making an appearance at the Wired store there.

Alex Evans is a co-founder of Media Molecule, the developer behind the most charming, innovative and revolutionary game of the year: LittleBigPlanet. The game is both a platformer and a development platform—it lets players create their own levels with unprecedented ease and fluidity, and then upload their creations to share with other players.

He’ll be at the store this Thursday, December 4, from 7-8 PM talking about his game with me (Chris Baker). The Wired Store is located on 15 West 18th St. You can and should RSVP.

The guys at Mm were also kind enough to make Wired some images with their logo included:

LBP Prototype video

Nov 17th 2008 - 7:06 PM

We saw this video over on LittleBigMadness today whilst trying to catch up on things, a prototype of LittleBigPlanet posted by Mm.

This prototype version appeals to us greatly, the art is so awesome in the crude form, and how fascinating it is to see how the team evaluated their ideas…

Import images function coming by Christmas

Nov 2nd 2008 - 4:48 PM

Media Molecule posted this photo on their Flickr feed

In some really quite excellent news that will make level builders everywhere rejoice in the streets, Alex Evans has confirmed that the ability to import images into LittleBigPlanet will be implemented by Christmas. Speaking at the GameCity festival in Nottingham last week, mister Evans told the press that the feature was apparently dropped for launch due to time constraints. This makes us very excited indeed, becuse as we all know, the PS3 eye camera image capture is really quite poor for making textures, so dust off your photoshop and roll on Christmas!

Media Molecule recognised amongst best of show at TGS

Oct 15th 2008 - 12:51 PM

imageThe Mm crew are back from the Tokyo Game Show, where on the Sunday night they were awarded with a ‘future’ award which Alex Evans of Mm described as a sort of best of show award which goes to the most anticipated games of the year, and is chosen by the attendees of the show. Alex goes on to describe the award ceremony itself, and how it made them all go a bit weepy…

There was a special awards ceremony, where each game was shown and a member of its team interviewed - in japanese. I stood, glazed and rather silly looking on stage as Kim-san deftly fielded questions and distracted nay-sayers with his trademark golden shoes.

To be the only western-developed game that achieved one of these awards this year, was incredible - so much so that I can even report that tears were shed all round.

We were curious about the other 11 games in the list, but sadly no official list of winners seems to have been published as of writing this. If I see one we’ll be sure to update here, but for now you can enjoy the awesome game names from what I assume is the indie catergory.

Congratualtions everyone at Mm!
