Today’s the day that the latest LittleBigPlanet DLC hits the digital shelves. North America, Europe, Japan and other regions can expect to see updates during the day, and in anticipation, here’s a quick recap on the goodies.
There is of course the limited time availability free Chinese New Year costumes which were released on Monday. Be sure to download them before February 5th, when the next update hits and they’re gone!
Then there is the hotly saught-after Kratos costume. Many of you may already have him through the special promotions worldwide, but for some - now is the time to get your hands on him at last! ($2.99 / £1.59 / €1.99 TBC)
The God of War pack is another content pack which has been available before, to North American Gamestop pre-order customers. It comes with the Kratos costume, plus the Medusa and Minotaur outfits. God of War themed stickers mean you’ll get a bit more bang for your bucks ($2.99 / £2.39 / €2.99 TBC).
And lastly, another free costume is available this week - the Groundhog Day Groundhog! Like the Chinese New Year pack, it’s only available until February 5th.
We’ve noticed some confused gadders have been asking what Groundhog Day is exactly. Well, here you go:
In weather lore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If on the other hand, it is sunny and the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for 6 more weeks.
It takes place on February 2nd in Canada and the United States.
Groundhog Day is also a damn good film with Bill Murray. Well, having Bill Murray in it automatically makes it damn good, but then anything could happen with a film that has Andie-”is it raining yet? oh I hadn’t noticed”-MacDowell in it. Anyway, yes, if you’ve not seen it then you need to. Heck, it’s out on Blu Ray this week as well.
So there you go.
As always, be sure to check our Complete DLC Archive for the low down on pricing and dates for everything that’s been released so far.

As you might have already seen, new LittleBigPlanet DLC for January and early February has been revealed.
In amongst the great new costumes and content packs is the God of War mini pack. Some lucky North American customers have already had this pack for some time now; as the God of War mini pack was available for all who pre-ordered at Gamestop. However, January 29th sees the commercial release of this pack, which will retail for $2.99 (£2.39 / €2.99 TBC).
Let’s have a quick recap about what the God of War mini-pack includes:
- Special God of War themed stickers
- Three costumes: Kratos, Medusa & Minotaur
Kratos is of course also included in the God of War mini pack, although his availability has been somewhat more widespread than his Medusa and Minotaur chums. In the UK for example, the Kratos costume was available through the Official PlayStation Magazine via a promotional code.
January 29th also sees the commerical release of the Kratos costume, retailing at $1.99 (£1.59 / €1.99 TBC).

Community Team Lead MusterBuster has today confirmed that LittleBigPlanet DLC will resume on January 26th. New content was expected tomorrow (January 22nd), but unknown circumstances have forced a one week delay.

- Chinese New Year Costumes (free) - available for 10 days only.
- God of War mini pack ($2.99)
- Kratos costume ($1.99 / £1.59 / €1.99)
- Groundhog Day costume (free) - available for 1 week only.
- Valentines Day mini pack ($2.99 / £2.39 / €2.99) - available for 2 weeks only.
- WipEout Costume Kit ($2.99 / £2.39 / €2.99)
We’re also expecting that late February might well see the arrival of a Killzone 2 pack of some sort, and February 27th has already been hinted at by the PlayStation Blog.
Our complete LittleBigPlanet DLC archive has been updated with the new content.
More updates later tonight and on this page as the Planetoid team assemble their heads after a night of celebrating the Inauguration yesterday!

Naughty Dog, creators of some of the PlayStation's most well loved games (Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Uncharted) have been checking out our Top 20 LittleBigPlanet Level Kit predictions for 2009.
We hope they were pleased to see their Jak & Daxter entry in at number 7 in the chart. But of course, like many entries in our top 20, it's a fairly unlikely one. The future of Jak & Daxter remains uncertain, what with Naughty Dog focusing attention on their new IP Uncharted. And later this year, Naughty Dog will be releasing the sequel to their hugely popular Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, with a change of scenery and T-Shirt, in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
In a comment on their Twitter feed, Naughty Dog mentioned our chart and hinted at the possibility of Uncharted DLC coming to LBP:
Jak and Daxter is #7 in LittleBIGPlanetoid's "Top 20 LittleBigPlanet Level Kit Predictions" Where's Drake or UNCHARTED?
We've been tempted to return to our ever popular Top-20 for 'bonus rounds' for some time now, as there are simply so many ideas, and we saw the perfect opportunity to do so with this Tweet... (We're pretty sure you can expect more 'bonus rounds' to come along in the future).
This one's for you Naughty Dog, keep up the great work, we're very much looking forward to Uncharted 2!
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
It's time for Sackboys and Sackgirls to put on their adventuring gear and head into the jungle, with this Uncharted: Among Thieves level kit - released alongside the full game this autumn. Packed in to it is a classic Nathan Drake costume, and also a costume for side kick hardcore journalist, Elena Fisher.
Marvel at how the shirt remains half tucked in half not tucked in at all times... just like Tim Schafer says, half-tuck is the new mullet. Unlike certain other adventurer sequels, let's hope this one won't nuke the fridge.
Chance of actually being released: 82%
Thanks to everyone on Twitter who sent this in.

A rather convincing image of a LittleBigPlanet Valkyria Chronicles costume has popped up on popular image website 4chan:
As you can tell from the image, it lacks the crispness of a real LittleBigPlanet character render, but it has to be said - it’s talented fan art that’s worth sharing. The creator of the image is unknown to us at the moment.
Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles was not one of the IP’s listed in our Top 20 LittleBigPlanet level kit predictions and despite not being a big seller, is popular amongst many diehard gamers and RTS fans. The PS3-exclusive received positive reviews when it launched in Europe and North America last November.

In the latest edition of “sack it to me” , the US Playstation blog’s weekly LBP update, the release date for the Killzone 2 Helghast DLC is hinted to be coming at the same time as Killzone 2 itself, February 27th.
We’re getting ready to start another year of DLC on the PS Store at the end of the month - we’ll have a better update next week. Again, thanks for your patience - we needed the rest over the holiday break. Also, we saw all your comments asking for the previously shown Killzone “Helghast” and Final Fantasy VII “Sephiroth” costumes. Don’t worry its on its way…BTW…when does Killzone 2 come out?
That’s not far off, and it makes perfect sense to us to tie in DLC with a game’s release. Using the same logic, the Sephiroth costume could arrive alongside Final Fantasy XIII.
Also mentioned in the article is how great *we* are, and that a new build is in testing which should arrive soon, hopefully along with “Online Create Mode” and the Play / Create / Share counters.
Thanks to all of you making fan sites for LBP, we’re honored. One site has really grabbed our attention, LittleBigPlanetoid. They have tons of updates & feature articles, including a very thorough DLC FAQ. Great stuff.
Thank you, thank you, so kind!
Also, thanks to Christopher Clowes for the email reminder.
Ever been confused by what DLC content is available for LittleBigPlanet? Well, here is our very own Complete LittleBigPlanet DLC Archive.
Over time, we aim to document every single piece of DLC material for the game, how much it costs, when it came out plus any other useful pieces of information for all you happy gadders.

The God of War ‘Kratos’ and Ape Escape ‘Pipo Monkey’ costumes have recently popped up on the PlayStation Asia Store, listed as being available from January 8th.
However, we’re not quite sure why these costumes have popped up on the store. Their descriptions seem to imply that they are only available to a select group of people. The Pipo monkey costume is one of the prizes available in the PlayStation Asia Design a Sackboy competition, however the final winners are not announced until February 15th.
The descriptions are as follows:
Congratulations! It looks like you managed to get your hands on the exclusive LittleBigPlanet™ Kratos costume. Download it now and feel the power!
Congratulations! It looks like you managed to get your hands on the exclusive LittleBigPlanet™ Pipo Monkey costume. Download it now and see how really cute it is!
Considering that the Kratos costume has been available in the E.U and U.S for some time now (through special promotion codes) - we’re guessing that the Pipo Monkey costume might well become available via a similar means. That is, if Sony wish to keep him ‘special’ in that way. We think Pipo looks very cute:
Incidentally, you can vote for the winners of the PlayStation Asia Costume Competition over on the website.
[UPDATE - January 16th]
The dates on the site have now been changed from January 8th to January 26th.
As the year draws to an end, it’s traditionally a time to reflect on the past 12 months, and look to the future. Here on the Planetoid, we’ve been thinking over all the wonderful happenings of 2008 in the glorious world of the Little Big Planet.
So, as our end of 2008 feature, we’ve compiled our Top 20 Little Big Planet Level Kit Predictions. 20 big ones. The things that we’d like to happen (but won’t really happen), mixed in with the things that we think could happen and things that we really know will definitely happen. Enjoy!

So here we are! The big 5. The top 5. The highest entries in our Top 20 LittleBigPlanet Level Kit Predictions for 2009.
Over the past few days we’ve been pushing the boat out with some pretty wacky ideas for what we think would be great to see in LittleBigPlanet. Entries like Iron Man, Spiderman, Halo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The A-Team have gotten people quite hot under the collar. It’s great to see people enjoying our concepts for what could be.
Today though, our final article takes us up to the all-important number 1. Whilst we’ve still got a few fairly unlikely ideas thrown in, the final five also includes the most likely of all the entries in the chart. Without any further delay then, here are those last entries in Little Big Planetoid’s Top 20 LittleBigPlanet Level Kit Predictions for 2009!
It’s-a-me-a-Mario! The Infamous Italian plumber comes to the LittleBigPlanet to show everyone how platforming is done! A set of colourful costumes based on Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach, and a platforming adventure in which sackboys must rescue the princess from the dastardly villain, Bowser. Special items include a power-up mushroom to super size your sackboys. Let’s a go!

Dooo doooo didley dooo doo, diddley doo doo, diddley dooo! It’s the big one, Star Wars, and not that useless prequel junk either, the real deal from back when George Lucas wasn’t quite so utterly incompetent.
This fanboy dream pack includes costumes of Luke, Chewbacca, Han Solo, C3-PO, R2D2, Princess Leia and of course Darth Vader, and a set of levels based on their classic space adventures. Expect this pack to be remastered a few moths after release, and every few months after, to add things into it that don’t need to be changed, charging you again to see them, and alienating the entire fan base.
Chance of actually being released: 38%
World of Warcraft
Sackboys are called through the dark portal to Azeroth, and sent to Northrend, to join the ongoing struggle to stop the Lich King from spreading his plague across the LittleBigPlanet. Costume pieces based on iconic armour tier sets for each class in the game, and an unlockable set of Lich King armour for those Sackfolk who are unable to resist Frostmourne’s call, and wish to sit on the Icy throne themselves.
Levels, made in conjunction with Blizzard, contain missions such as killing 40 snow badgers, and a final Raid encounter against Arthas himself.
Chance of actually being released: 4%
This one is fairly definite to appear some time this year, with information on in being leaked at the same time as the MGS a few moths ago. What it will contain, other than a Sephiroth costume is unknown, some more costumes, presumably of Cloud and his cohorts, such as Barat, Yuffie, Aeris or Vincent are fairly likely, but we’ll have to wait to see if this will be a special pack along the same lines as MGS, with new levels and items, or more like the Street Fighter package of four costumes.
Perhaps levels would be filled with materia instead of the usual prize bubbles, include some intense CGI, and levels based around a plot to destroy Jenova and save the world. Time will tell!

With February’s arrival of one of the PlayStation 3’s Triple-A flag-bearing titles comes this Killzone 2 Premium Level Kit. Packed full of awesome content, players can finally get their hands on the sought-after Helghast costume, first featured in a 2008 LBP trailer; Killzone 2’s lead character, Sgt. Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko also has a costume. The level kit features 5 nail-biting levels that take you through the barren landscapes of Helghan. The Helghast’s ability to control weather systems is beautifully recreated the new weather systems tool, which can be unlocked and used in Create mode. The weather systems tool can transform a bright sunny day to a blisteringly cold arctic tundra or from the humidity of a sticky tropical forest to a torrential autumnal downpour. If only they’d shown a video of this back at E3 2005, instead of that CGI video…

If you missed them, you can catch up on the rest of our top 20 chart with entries 20-16 and 15-11.
But let’s get on. The top 10 begins here and these next five entries take us down to the all important top 5. So please enjoy another five fun ideas for content that could well be coming to LittleBigPlanet in 2009, or perhaps not.
The A Team
After the success of the He-man and TMNT packs, Sony continue to plum the depths of the 80s, and have come back with the A-Team pack. Four incredible costumes of B.A Baracus, “Howling Mad” Murdok, Faceman, and Hannibal come to LittleBigPlanet, along with a pack of levels, the most exciting part of which is when players must use their Create pop-it abilities to convert a simple automobile into a weapon of mass destruction.
I love it when a plan comes together!

The Pokémon pack, licenced from Nintendo, contains an incredible 150 costumes, representing each of the original pocket monsters from the late 1990’s. The twist of the pack is that players must catch them all which involves playing the same set of levels over and over again until the costume you want randomly appears, and using a pokéball pop-it item to snare it. Collecting all 150 costumes unlocks a 151st one - Mew.
Chance of actually being released: 1%
Devil May Cry
After the success of their Street Fighter II costumes, Capcom return with a full-on Devil May Cry Level Kit. A host of levels await you in this pack, all containing puzzles and challenges against fearsome demons. A Dante costume is included with a unique morphing ability - tapping R1 and L1 simultaneously, acts as the devil trigger, making your Sackboy temporarily stronger and more powerful. The ability transforms Sackboy’s regular slap to a super slap, capable of slapping enemies and objects right across the screen!
Chance of actually being released: 42%
Sony jump in and milk the cow on one of the PlayStation 2’s most popular duos. Both Jak and Daxter costumes are included in the Jak and Daxter Level Kit. A handful of levels are included with varying amounts of the mysterious dark eco matter, with its unique ability to control your Sackboy’s emotes (turning him evil if too much dark eco is absorbed). The real gem of this level kit is a new ability setting that enhances Sackboy’s jump to a double-jump, just like Jak.
Chance of actually being released: 75%
The controversial Halo pack unites Xbox and PlayStation fans like nothing else can. It’s a call to end the long and bloody console wars, and invites both sides to climb out of their respective trenches, hold hands, sing songs and play a game of football together in the snow. The pack contains various colours of Master Chief costume, a rideable Warthog vehicle object, and a set of 10 explosive levels that take you through the original Halo storyline. Fanboys rejoice!

Dec 28th 2008 - 1:00 AM
Today, we continue our Top 20 LittleBigPlanet Level Kit Predictions, starting where we left off at number 15, through to 11.
Yesterdays highlights include Sex and the City, Spiderman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so if you missed them then check out entries 20-16.
We've some more stonkers for you today though, so sit back and enjoy more of our crazy (and not so crazy) LittleBigPlanet Level Kit Predictions, numbers 15-11.
After Sony took a demographic slice of PlayStation users in early 2009, they realised that their richest customers were in their late 20s, early 30s, and looked for an iconic figure from this demographic's childhood with which they could make money through happy nostalgic memories. They decided upon 80's superhuman hero, He-Man. The most powerful man in the Universe.
The 4 costumes included are classic villain Skeletor, lovable warrior Man-At-Arms, Prince Adam, and of course our hero He-Man. Players battle their way through 5 poorly animated levels, starting at Castle Grayskull and traveling all the way across Eternia to Skeletor's evil hideaway in Snake Mountain, where the the cackling Evil Lord of Destruction is destroyed. Battlecat is included as a ride-able transport in the later levels, and
You haaaavveeeee the poooowwwwweeerrrrr!

After Paul McCartney received a PS3 for Christmas and played LittleBigPlanet, he finally allowed someone to licence the Beatles IP and create this fantastic fab four level pack. This pack includes costumes for John, Paul, George and Ringo dressed as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Players must navigate a Yellow Submarine themed set of levels, which are abstract and trippy to say the least, with the ultimate goal being to save Pepperland from the music hating Blue Meanines. As expected, the pack also includes a set of songs to match the levels, and costs way more than usual.
Chance of actually being released: 21%
Friends: The one with the Sackboys, is a pack that comes from way way off left field. Very plain costumes for each of the six main characters of the once popular sit-com are included, except Ross because no one likes that guy. Additional costumes include an 'ugly naked sackguy' costume which is comprised of nothing at all, and a re-release of the turkey head costume. Levels, like the show, are often predictable, but still enjoyable. Most of the action takes part in the 'Central Perk' level, or one of the two apartments. This add-on also comes with the ability to wear every single costume in your inventory at the same time as a homage to the episode entitled The one where no one's ready.
Chance of actually being released: 16%
Simon Pegg Tribute Pack
To mark the upcoming 10 year anniversary of cult British Sitcom, Spaced; we introduce to you the Simon Pegg Tribute Pack. This pack comes jammed with 3 costumes of Simon Pegg's most popular roles: Tim (Spaced), Shaun complete with cricket bat (Shaun of the Dead) and Nicholas Angel (Hot Fuzz).
Two bonus side-kick costumes are also included: Zombie Ed, the zombified version of Shaun's closest friend; and camo-clad Mike Watt, complete with tank vehicle (ready to invade Paris). No levels are included with this pack, although there is a wealth of zombie stickers and original comic artwork from Tim Bisley's portfolio, plus an exclusive audio object which includes Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel's White Lines (Don't Don't Do It). How's that for a slice of fried gold?
Chance of actually being released: 12%
The coolest superhero of 2008 returns again with this exclusive Marvel Comics Iron Man Level Kit! Bundled costumes include evil brutish bad guy Obadiah Stane's Iron Monger, Iron Man mk 1, Iron Man mk 2 and the shiniest of the costumes, Iron Man mk 3. Mk 2 & 3 costumes feature an exclusive built in jetpack, available for short bursts when multipliers are achieved in any level! The story levels included take you on a journey from the deserts of Afghanistan, to Tony Stark's residence and then to Stark industries' engineering plant for a final boss showdown with the giant Iron Monger. But the real power of this level kit lies in the Iron Man mk3 costume: a concealed flamethrower, capable of destroying anything that burns! Hell yeh!
Chance of actually being released: 17%
Tomorrow we'll continue our countdown, and things are *really* going to heat up as we enter the top ten and run down to 6 in the third part of our Top 20 Little Big Planet Level Kit Predictions.
