We hereby declare that 1.08 shall be known as ‘Ricotta’

Jan 26th 2009 - 1:49 PM

Patch 1.08 hit the servers last night, but instead of the bug fixes everyone was hoping for, this patch was just downloadable content related. According to the cheese schedule laid out by Mm earlier this month, the next patch due would have been named Edam - but this is not edam, and nor is it a cheese at all according to the latest entry on Mm’s blog, which contains the tag ‘not a cheese’.

For reasons of consistency, we require a cheese based nickname for this patch, and have decided to dub it Ricotta - a cheese made, in part, with natural by-products of cheese production, and therefore much less of a cheese altogether.

Arise Sir Cheese!

UPDATE

Ahem. This article has been marked as factually incorrect. A patch called ‘Ricotta’ is now in production.

OMG they are releasing chargeable content B4 they fix the problem that many people are having whereby you CAN’T SAVE ANYTHING! Not levels, costumes Nada. What is the point in me playing this game currently? Let alone buying more content I cant use, MM I want my money back!

Jim, I’m pretty sure it’s different teams handling the things.

The DLC team got their shit together a week late and are now making their release patches. The main troubleshooting/dev team will probably have something soon. Sure it’s the same company, but it doesn’t mean every single person there is working on the same task.

I just downloaded Patch 1.08 and now my friggin game wont even play. It get’s to the screen where you can make the little pointer jump up and down, then quits, frustratingly returning me to my Home Page?! It works on my other profile, but even there I see imense problems. Like the online stages won’t load, I can’t even get online at the same time. Once it kicks me off of the game, I get disconnected and my PS3 litterally reboots?! WTF? E-mail soon…

Sounds screwed :( Hopefully the team at Mm have some idea of what is causing this and are going full steam to fix it… but so many people seem to be having issues, it’s crazy.

I was looking forward to downloading the patch, but then noticed several complaints about further severe glitches on Media Molecule’s page. I downloaded the Chinese New Year DLC from the PlayStation Store, but hopefully I can just wait out the actual 1.08 update (read: avoid playing LBP with a server connection :/) until whatever problem’s plaguing it is addressed.

I’m bitterly disappointed the patch for the saving glitch was not their main priority. I have been unable to collect stickers/costumes/objects from story mode for too long now. Nothing saves for me even after deleting community items etc. :( They say the patches need to be put through a rigorous testing phase, surely they could have tested the MGS pack thoroughly to see that it screws up alot of peoples games? (Like it did to mine). The Chinese New Year costumes are great though and haven’t affected my game further. No screw ups there.

I work in the customer relations trade (just down the road from the MM London office), and when a customer has a problem with a product, you concentrate on fixing their issue before you try and sell them anything else; as doing this can completely turn off the customer. The customer’s view is that anything else they get from you will also be rubbish or faulty and that your company obviously doesn’t care about them. MediaMolecule have MAAAASSIVE priority issues. They may well have separate teams working on different things, but they should hold back the DLC until they’ve fixed the other problems, as a matter of principle. Now I know they are only trying to make money, but isn’t LBP supposed to be all about the community?? Well the community are turning sour. I emailed MM informing them I would return my copy of LBP if they released the DLC first… Well, traded it in at GAME today. Bye, bye MM you honestly sicken me.

@ Barry

In response to “They may well have separate teams working on different things, but they should hold back the DLC until they’ve fixed the other problems, as a matter of principle.”

Perhaps world governments should suspend upholding the law until the economy is fixed as well? (roll-eyes)

How is holding back content from the community, “out of principle”, a positive.

@ Dawk

You’re comparing LBP to the government and economy crisis? Come on now. It’s more like me buying a car that has no wheels, and the garage go and give me a new engine instead of wheels. My car is not fixed. It’s just jazzed up. I get absolutely nowhere. Sure, MM should definitely not hold back content from the community, but they should make the content relative to the times. :’( It sucks that I have to wait till mid Feb for some news on the save patch.
