Much loved British TV Presenter Tony Hart passed away today, peacefully at his home in Surrey, England, aged 83. His health had been declining since he suffered two strokes a few years ago, which left him having to give up drawing as he lost the use of his hands - a terrible thing to happen to an artist and something he described as “the greatest cross I have to bear”.
Tony Hart was responsible for entire generations of children taking an interest in arts & crafts, having presented art based kids TV shows for over 50 years. These now legendary TV programs showed children basic techniques in drawing, painting and sculpture, all with his fun teaching methods and charming personality.
Younger readers may not be aware that the classic LittleBigPlanet musical track “Left Bank 2”, written by The Noveltones, is synonymous with The Gallery section of Tony’s TV show Vision On. The Gallery was always one of the most popular parts of his shows, where children from across Britain would send in their creations to be showcased. LittleBigPlanet pays a clear tribute to Tony Hart by using the same music, pace, and tone in its introductory sequence.
It truly is a sad day. Rest in peace Tony Hart.
