When Little Big Planet was first shown at GDC 2007, after calming themselves down at the excitement of the game, everyone was asking: What is that song!
The Go Team‘s now infamous Get It Together set the tone for the game perfectly and it’s hard not to listen to the song without mental images of sackboys and girls running and jumping their way around spinning windmills…
When the game launched however, players were shown a small library of more songs, just as fantastic as Get It Together and all at their disposal for inclusion in the levels that they create. There is a person behind all these songs of course, and that is BAFTA-nominated British Film and TV composer, Daniel Pemberton. Daniel has worked on a variety of TV and Film projects before he working on Little BIG Planet, including Channel 4’s hilarious Peep Show (those ‘burr-dum-do-dum-do-dink! sound clips that link the scenes and ad breaks together are a bit more familiar now).
The great news is that The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra are releasing an album with all the great songs that were written by Daniel in the game. ‘Little BIG Music: Musical Oddities From & Inspired By Little BIG Planet’ by The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra is available on 1812 Recordings as a digital download from December 15th. Anyone who’s played the game should recognise the albums track listing…
