Launching with a new IP during the Christmas period can be a risky business as there are always plenty of established AAA titles fighting for your dollar in the shops, so it's great to see that Little Big Planet has claimed its stake of the Christmas buying-blitz.

Obviously we absolutely love the game here on the Planetoid and we can't wait to see the new content and features coming to LBP over the coming months which will no doubt keep those new sack people joining our massive online community of FUN.

Still thinking of getting the game or know a friend who needs some gentle persuasion? Just £19.99 on Shopto.net.

I remember reading a thread on NeoGAF that was all “OH IT DIDN’T SELL A BAZILLION COPIES ON ITS FIRST DAY OH WHAT A FAILURE IT IS SONY IS DOOMED!!!!!!!!1!!”

I’m happy to see this game is selling well. It definitely deserves it. It’s one of the best games of this generation.

YES!  I am so glad to see that they have broken the 1 million dollar mark.  I hope sales continue to fly through the roof!  I am saddened to see that many people are not taking advantage of this game.  It is hands down the most creative game with the absolute endless possibilities developed as of yet.

A pre-Christmas rush sent takings at Waitrose soaring 41 per cent to £112 million in the week to December 27 but group sales at the John Lewis Partnership, its parent, were down 1.6 per cent over the past 22 weeks.  John Lewis, which is regarded the bellwether of the British retail sector, said the week to December 27, 2008 included Waitrose’s strongest trading day on record while sales at the group’s 27 department stores rose 1.2 per cent, hitting £71 million.  Waitrose said December 23 was its busiest day with more than 879,000 transactions, totalling £34.4 million. In the week before Christmas, the upmarket grocer sold almost 1,000 tonnes of turkey, 90 tonnes of ham and 12 million mince pies.  At John Lewis department stores, sales of laptops and televisions helped to boost figures and the stores sold twice as many large flat screen televisions as last year, said the group.  The continued popularity of iPods and other portable music players meant that sales of soundocks, which connect iPods to speakers for home use, were up 71 per cent.  John Lewis said furnishings were also popular, with strong demand for carpets driving sales of floor coverings up 85 per cent.  John Lewis did not publish sales figures for the week ended December 20, but reported falling sales at the department stores for 13 weeks before that.
