Eagle-eyed LBP fans have spotted that following the 1.10 patch which came out today, an ‘Ancient Monkey’ costume has appeared in the icon for the ‘design a Sackboy competition winners’ section of the LittleBigStore.
We’re calling it ‘Ancient Monkey’ because it appears to be ancient and it looks like a monkey (plus nick, a regular reader called it that):
It’s highly likely that this costume will be free when released, as all the other ‘design a Sackboy competition winners’ have been free. Everyone loves a freebie right?
We’ve only really got one thing to say about this news:

Update: The Monkey appears to be none other than the Monkey King from Journey to the West, a story from Chinese literature that was made into a most excellent 80’s TV show, and was recently adapted for the stage by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. Well done to commenters Southe and Joeli83cr for spotting that! Here’s the competition entry:
Im sure thats meant to be Son Gokū from Journey to the west. So should get magical staff or flying cloud with the costume.

Its cool, but i like the original ones like the TV and the Sack-Eating Plant better. I really liked the TV remote and the tv head had the plug in the back.
Monkey King costume looks eerily (blatantly) similar to Soul Calibur 4’s Kilik Costume… complete with staff, scarf, gauntlets, headband, and tiger fur wrap. I’m not impressed by unoriginal concepts. Maybe if I make a costume of Mario as a chipmunk nobody will notice that it’s actually Mario.

No, I did not enter the contest… but if I did I would have come up with something much more original (see my Warhawk design contest winner). I’m always down with new content… but I’m hardly appreciative of non-innovative material. Fine, give us Kilik the monkey… Kilik is my favorite SC4 character. I’d much rather have a working game though. I say screw the monkey suit and patch this game up before it’s completely dead.

To be fair, journey to the west predates kilik by about 400 years.
i think its a great costume and no1 should be complaining because its free and its a great game it wont die for years and try and keep the language suitable for kids because they use the site as well

If the competition says “No copyrighted stuff, so no Mr. T or Spidey Costumes, you fool”, how come this one won?
I’m assuming because it’s based on a 400 year old book, it will be out of copyright. It depends how much of the design is from the book and how much is from the TV series etc.

If you read the article, you’ll notice it’s based on a very old Chinese story. The fact it was the basis for a TV series shouldn’t matter in this case.

Oh come on plz tell us when will the killzone2 lvl pack is coming but anyway it is true that LBP cant go fullscreen i wish it did
@kyle The contest is over, it was from before launch
@ Andrei The KZ2 pack has not got a date yet, and what do you mean about fullscreen? it doesnt run at 1080p, but it does run fullscreen.
@Spiggles : I mean like LBP can got big screen on the tvs and if the killzone2 add on pack for lbp comes on june then i will be so happey cause by that time i will have all of the new costumes
